The world of mobile gaming and content creation is more exciting than ever, but one persistent challenge remains—overheating. If you’ve ever felt your phone getting uncomfortably warm during an intense gaming session or a long video call, you know how much of a nuisance it can be. That’s where cooling fans like the Flydigi B8X come into play. Designed to be a major upgrade from its predecessor, the B7X, the B8X promises double the cooling power and a host of smart features. But does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive in and explore everything this gadget has to offer.
What’s Inside the Box?
When you unbox the Flydigi B8X, you’ll find everything you need to get started. Alongside the fan itself, there’s a set of magnetic stickers for phones that don’t support magnetic mounting natively, an adaptor cable for connecting to a power source, and some basic instructions. It’s a simple yet thoughtful package that ensures you’re ready to go right out of the box.
Design and Build Quality
The Flydigi B8X retains the sleek spherical design of the B7X but packs several improvements under the hood. It’s slightly heavier and thicker than its predecessor, thanks to upgraded internal components. The heatsink inside is now larger, with denser and thinner fins that improve heat dissipation significantly. This means better airflow and more efficient cooling overall.
One standout change is the redesigned air intake and exhaust system. Instead of pulling air from the front and blowing warm air onto your hand, the B8X draws air from the sides and expels it through the front. This small tweak makes a big difference in user comfort during extended use.
The fan also features a full RGB lighting setup, brighter and more customizable than before. You can control the colors and effects via the Flydigi Game Center app, which we’ll talk about later. The magnetic attachment system is another highlight, making installation quick and easy. If your phone doesn’t support magnetic mounting, the included adhesive stickers do the trick without adding bulk.
Key Features and Upgrades
1. Double the Cooling Power
According to the manufacturer, the B8X offers twice the cooling efficiency of the B7X. While the older model claimed to reach temperatures as low as -8°C, the B8X aims for -16°C. Real-world testing showed that the B8X cooled down to around -12°C under ideal conditions. Although it didn’t quite hit the advertised -16°C, it still performed significantly better than the B7X, delivering noticeable improvements in performance and device longevity.
2. Improved Fan Performance
The Flydigi B8X uses a larger 50mm fan compared to the 40mm fan in the B7X. This allows for stronger airflow while keeping noise levels low. The fan operates at around 35 dB, which is quieter than the B7X’s 37 dB. The reduction in noise might seem minor on paper, but it’s a game-changer during long gaming sessions or streaming marathons.
3. Smart Modes and Customization
The Flydigi Game Center app is where the B8X truly shines. It brings a range of smart modes and customization options, giving you complete control over how the fan operates. Here are the main features:
- Smart Control Mode: Automatically adjusts fan speed based on your phone’s temperature. It has two sub-modes:
- Silent Mode: Keeps the fan quiet, perfect for late-night gaming or when you don’t want to disturb others.
- Max Mode: Pushes the fan to its maximum speed for rapid cooling when needed.
- Expert Mode: Allows you to manually set the fan speed between 1,500 and 5,000 RPM. If you prefer a quieter experience, dial it down. If you need maximum cooling, crank it up.
- Fixed Power Mode: Best used with the 30W adapter. This mode unlocks the highest possible cooling performance by matching the fan’s output to the power supply.
Other features include real-time monitoring of fan speed, ambient temperature, and heatsink temperature. You can even schedule the fan to operate for anywhere from 1 minute to 23 hours, making it ideal for long streaming sessions or extended use.
4. Safety Features
The Flydigi B8X includes two important safety mechanisms:
- Overcooling Protection: Prevents condensation inside your phone by shutting off the fan if the temperature drops below -2°C for three consecutive minutes. This helps avoid potential damage from moisture buildup.
- Overheat Protection: Automatically stops the fan if airflow is blocked, such as when you accidentally drop your phone face-down or place it on a soft surface. This ensures your phone stays safe and prevents overheating-related issues.
Real-World Testing and Performance
To put the Flydigi B8X through its paces, we tested it on a Samsung Galaxy S23 FE using a variety of games and benchmarks. Here’s what we found:
- Delta Force: Without the B8X, the phone reached 43°C after 15 minutes of gameplay. With the fan attached, the temperature dropped to 35°C, and the frame rate improved from 40 FPS to 58 FPS.
- Genshin Impact: Similar results were observed. The phone cooled down from 43°C to 37°C, and the frame rate increased to 58 FPS.
- TD Mark Benchmark: Before using the fan, the phone ran at 37–39°C with a frame rate of 23–49 FPS. After attaching the B8X, the temperature dropped to 16–19°C, though the frame rate didn’t increase significantly.
While the B8X didn’t quite reach the advertised -16°C, it still delivered impressive results. The real-world benefits are clear—longer battery life, smoother performance, and a cooler phone overall
