Design & Build Quality

Right out of the box, the Machenike M8 has a devil fish-like shape bionic design, it is symmetrical in shape and a little bigger than your average mouse with two wide flanges on the lower side decorated with an aesthetically pleasing RGB line, the wide surface will allow your palm to sit more comfortably for extended periods of time, it weighs around 85g so you can definitely feel the weight when using it, the whole thing feels premium and looks very well crafted even though the price is medium.

From the bottom side, we find a cool pattern, the DPI button, and a cursor to choose between the 3 operating modes: wired, wireless, and wireless battery saves mode. On the left, we find the previous and next buttons along with 3 dots that indicate the level of the battery whereas on the right side we find the Machenike logo.

On top, there are right and left click buttons and the RGB scroll wheel, the dpi button should have been on top but they choose to put it on the bottom and we don’t know why. The mesh on the M8 is magnetically held in place, you can remove it to replace it with the other piece that comes in the box or reveal the USB underneath it so you can use it wirelessly.

The front side has the USB type-c used both for charging and wired mode, it has two anchors to hold the cable in place and give the port more lifespan even when you use it intensely for gaming for example.

Machenike M8 Overall Performance

Speaking of the performance, the machenike M8 mouse comes in two models, the M830 and the M820. I have the M830 with me so that’s what I’ll talk about. It has the PMW3335 sensor which is a lot better than the M820’s. This sensor is a fairly low-power and high-performance version; With 8 DPI gears ranging from 800 to 16000 DPI, support of both wired and wireless usage modes, 1000hz refresh rate, and a daily light switch of 30 million clicks.

Machenike M8 Overall Performance

The mouse is ready to go out of the box with all the features, but you can get more customizability by downloading the Machenike M830 software on windows.

One of the main selling points of the M830 Wireless is the 2.4GHz band which is provided by a small USB dongle. I didn’t notice any input lags, disconnections, or general issues with the wireless feature. The I/O tests for the wireless and the wired peripherals were very good with results all ranging from 0ms to 1ms which is perfect for gaming.

How to use the Machenike M8

The M8 can be used in either the wired or the wireless mode, for the wired you to have to plug the cable to the USB C port on one end and the USB A on the computer end, as well as select the wired mode in the switch beneath the mouse. For the wireless mode, you will have to put the switch in either the 2.4Ghz or 2.4Ghz battery save mode, then open the magnetic mouse cover and take out the USB dongle, plug it into your computer and you are good to go.

Machenike M830 Software Driver

The Machenike M830 has its own software on the Windows platform, which has four menus for lighting, DPI, parameters, and macro, you can do all sorts of amazing customizations like setting the LED light modes and colors, changing the DPI from a wide range of DPI levels and color associated with each level, in parameters, you can set the mouse sensitivity, scrolling speed, the refresh rate and set buttons as suits your preference.

Battery Life

Machenike M830 has a built-in 1000mAh rechargeable battery, up to 120 hours of use on a single power charge. But realistically, if you use it all the time with RGB on and on maximum refresh rate, it will last with you about 10 days before you have to charge it again, which is a huge autonomy, especially since you can use it while it’s charging and get a better response time than the wireless mode less than 1ms.

To charge the M830, you only have to plug the USB-C cable in the port, and it will start charging, and thanks to the 1.6 meters cable, it will allow you to use it with no inconvenience while it’s charging

Machenike M820 vs M830

So, the Machenike M8 comes in two variants, the first is the M830 which we have talked about in detail above, but there is also the cheaper version of it which is the m820. This version costs nearly two-thirds (⅔) of the price of the first one and makes some compromises to the performance when compared to the M830. When you buy the M820, you get the PMW3220 sensor instead of the PMW3335, which means less DPI with only up to 4000 instead of 16000, a maximum of 500Hz of frequency instead of 1000Hz.

Machenike M8 Review

In the aesthetic department, you’ll compromise the RGB 16.8million colors for only 7 colors, personally, I put the RGB light on steady mode, and that works just fine. Also, the buttons on the M820 last only for 20 million clicks instead of 30 million, and the cable you’ll get is only 0.5 meters long instead of 1.6 meters in the m830. Last but not least, the M820 doesn’t have a dedicated software to play with the settings, so you are stuck with one button layout, other than that, there is practically no difference between using vs not using the software.

Final Verdict

Overall, whether you choose the M830 or the M820, you are getting a good deal for your money. With all that variety of options and the beautiful light and high performance, I would definitely recommend this wireless mouse.
