The gaming mouse scene is a crowded one, that’s for sure, with new contenders popping up constantly, all vying for that sweet spot on your desk. Every now and then, though, a product like the EWEADN S9 series breaks through the noise, promising a blend of familiar comfort, high-end specifications, and a price point that makes you do a double-take.

I’ve had my hands on both the S9 Pro and the S9 Ultra, specifically the eye-catching Flame Red Ultra and the slick Gradient Purple Pro, and it’s immediately clear these are gunning for those who love that classic, ambidextrous Viper-esque shape but are looking for something more accessible. You can snag the base S9 for around $54.99, the Pro for about $64.99, and this top-tier S9 Ultra sits at a very competitive $69.99, all available directly from Amazon or here from AliExpress. What really makes the S9 Ultra, and even the Pro, stand out is the inclusion of 8KHz wireless polling – a feature typically reserved for mice costing significantly more, sometimes double or even triple the price of these.

The build quality feels surprisingly robust, the clicks are satisfyingly snappy thanks to Kailh switches in the higher-tier models, and the PAW3950 sensor in the Ultra is top-of-the-line. So, the big question is, does the EWEADN S9 deliver on its promise of high-end performance and familiar comfort without the high-end price tag? I’ve put it through its paces to find out.

What’s in the Box & First Look

Okay, so you’re thinking about a new gaming mouse, and the EWEADN S9 Ultra has caught your eye. The unboxing experience itself feels quite premium, which is a good start. The mice arrive nestled in these rather sturdy brown cardboard shipping boxes, but once you get inside, you’re greeted with more protective, sleek black retail boxes.

When you finally open up that main black box, the mouse and its accessories are securely held in place by dense foam padding. Alongside the mouse, you’ll get a user manual, and a rather pleasant surprise is the included bag of grip tapes; they feature some quite stylish, almost tribal-like, geometric designs, and they’re backed with 3M adhesive. You also receive a braided USB-A to USB-C charging cable. The braiding feels decent quality, not too stiff, not too flimsy, and it’s a good length for charging or even playing wired if you prefer. The wireless dongle is a compact black rectangle, fairly standard, with “EWEADN” printed on it in a subtle gold font, giving it a touch of class.

    Design, Build & Comfort

The mice themselves are carefully wrapped in a thin, soft protective sheet to prevent any scuffs during transit. The first one we’re looking at is the Gradient Purple. This finish is quite striking; it transitions smoothly from a vibrant, almost electric purple at the top where your palm rests, down to a deep, matte black towards the base. It’s a really eye-catching look, and the scroll wheel on this particular colorway features a contrasting white rubber accent. The other mouse showcased is the Flame Red; that color is absolutely stunning. It’s a very deep, rich metallic red that has a beautiful sheen to it and looks incredibly premium. It’s the kind of red that really stands out on a desk.

In terms of construction, these mice are made of plastic, but it’s clearly a high-quality, robust plastic. They feel very solid in the hand, with no creaking or flexing when gripped firmly. A good shake confirms their solid build – there’s absolutely no internal rattle, which is a hallmark of good assembly and quality control. The coating on both color variations feels excellent too. It’s a matte finish that provides a surprisingly good natural grip, to the point where you might not even feel the need to use the included grip tapes, though it’s certainly nice to have them as an option if your hands tend to get sweaty or you just prefer an even more textured feel.

    Buttons & Switches

Let’s talk about the clicks, as they’re crucial for gaming. On these specific versions, the S9 Pro and S9 Ultra, they utilize Kailh switches, which are well-regarded in the mouse community and are rated for an impressive 100 million clicks. This suggests a long lifespan for the primary buttons. When actuating them, they sound pretty similar across both the red and the purple models showcased. The clicks themselves are very snappy and responsive. There’s minimal pre-travel before the click registers and very little post-travel (the distance the button moves after actuation). This makes them feel direct and allows for easy, rapid spamming, which is great for fast-paced games. You might notice a tiny, almost imperceptible bit of post-travel if you consciously press down really hard at the very top edge of the main buttons, but in normal use, this isn’t an issue at all.

It’s worth noting that if you opt for the base S9 model (the non-Pro and non-Ultra version), it comes equipped with Huanyu switches, which are rated for 50 million clicks – still very durable, but a step down from the Kailhs.

The scroll wheel design is well-executed. It’s rubberized, featuring a textured pattern that offers excellent grip for your finger, ensuring no slippage during quick weapon swaps or scrolling through web pages. The tension of the scroll wheel feels like it’s on the lighter side, but not so light that you’ll accidentally scroll. It strikes a good balance, providing distinct enough steps for precise scrolling when you need it (like selecting a specific weapon in a list) but also remaining smooth enough for rapid, continuous scrolling.

The scroll wheel click itself is also easy to actuate, not requiring too much force, and has a satisfying, muted click sound. As mentioned earlier, the Gradient Purple mouse has that distinct white accent on its scroll wheel, while the Flame Red version features an all-black scroll wheel, which some might argue gives it an even sleeker, more uniform look. It’s a small aesthetic difference, but worth noting.

The side buttons are positioned well on the left side of the mouse, easily accessible with your thumb without requiring much of a grip adjustment. They exhibit minimal mushiness, which is a common complaint on lesser mice, and there’s very little pre-travel or post-travel here either. They feel quite snappy and responsive, almost as good as the main clicks, and importantly, there’s hardly any side wobble or looseness, which contributes to their premium feel.

    Weight

Now, let’s get to the weight, a critical factor for many gamers. The advertised weight for these mice is around 65 grams. Putting them on a digital scale, the Gradient Purple S9 Pro registered at 63.2 grams, and the Flame Red S9 Ultra came in at a very respectable 64 grams. So, they’re actually a touch lighter than what’s officially stated, which is always a pleasant discovery. While these aren’t breaking records as the absolute lightest mice on the market, weighing in at 63-64 grams positions them firmly in the lightweight category, making them very comfortable for extended gaming sessions and allowing for quick, agile movements. Many gamers actually find this weight range to be a sweet spot, offering enough substance for controlled movements without the feather-light feel that some find harder to manage.

EWEADN S9 Ultra Review: Viper Shape Without the Viper Price?

The shape of the EWEADN S9 is going to be immediately familiar to many, as it’s very, very similar to the highly popular Razer Viper V3 Pro. If you’ve ever used a Viper, you’ll feel right at home with the S9. It’s an ambidextrous design, meaning it’s symmetrical, though the side buttons are only on the left, making it primarily for right-handed users in that regard. The shape itself is very versatile and comfortable for a wide array of grip styles, including palm grip, claw grip, and fingertip grip. The gentle curves and relatively low profile accommodate these different grips well.

For reference, if your hand size is around 18cm by 8cm, you’ll likely find this mouse, as I did, quite comfortable, particularly with a claw-palm hybrid grip. The sides offer enough flat surface for a secure hold, and the gentle sloping at the back provides good palm support if you prefer that.

    Sensor & Performance Internals

Performance is where the different versions of the S9 truly begin to differentiate themselves. The S9 Ultra, like the Flame Red model we’re looking at, is equipped with the top-tier PAW3950 sensor, known for its flawless tracking and high performance. The S9 Pro, represented by the Gradient Purple, and the standard S9 model both use the PAW3395 sensor, which is still a very high-quality and capable sensor, widely used in many enthusiast-grade mice. Furthermore, both the S9 Pro and S9 Ultra share the same PixArt AR2862 master control chip, which is a robust controller ensuring stable and responsive communication. This is likely a more advanced chip than the PAN1080UA3C found in the standard S9 model.

These internal differences translate directly to tangible performance specifications. In terms of DPI (Dots Per Inch), the S9 Ultra can be cranked all the way up to an astonishing 42,000 DPI, offering incredible sensitivity if you need it, while the S9 and S9 Pro models top out at a still very high 26,000 DPI. For IPS (Inches Per Second), which measures how fast you can move the mouse before it loses tracking, the S9 Ultra achieves 750 IPS, while the S9 and S9 Pro manage 650 IPS. Both are extremely high figures, well beyond what most human hands can achieve.

    Connectivity

The polling rate is a significant differentiator here. The S9 Ultra supports an 8000Hz polling rate, both when used wired and wirelessly, thanks to its included 8K custom receiver. This means the mouse can report its position to the computer up to 8,000 times per second, resulting in incredibly smooth cursor movement and potentially lower click latency. The S9 Pro also supports this 8000Hz polling rate when used wirelessly with its 8K custom receiver, which is fantastic, but it’s limited to a standard 1000Hz when connected via the USB cable.

EWEADN S9 Ultra Review: Viper Shape Without the Viper Price?

The standard S9 model operates at a conventional 1000Hz for both wired and wireless connections, using a standard USB receiver. Regarding the switches, as previously noted, the S9 Pro and S9 Ultra feature the durable Kailh switches rated for 100 million clicks. The standard S9 model uses Huanyu switches, which are rated for a still very respectable 50 million clicks. Interestingly, all versions of the S9 come with a 500mAh battery, so battery life should be comparable across the range, though higher polling rates will naturally consume more power.

So, if you’re chasing the absolute pinnacle of performance from this lineup, the S9 Ultra is undoubtedly the one to aim for, primarily due to its superior sensor and consistent 8KHz polling rate across both wired and wireless modes. The 8000Hz polling rate provides exceptionally smooth and responsive tracking.

    Software

The EWEADN S9 mice come with their own dedicated software, which you can easily download from the official EWEADN website (eweacn.com). You just need to navigate to the Support section, then click on Driver Download, locate the S9 model, and choose the correct driver package for your specific version (either the standard S9 or the one for the S9 Pro/Ultra). Once downloaded and installed, the software interface is pretty clean and straightforward.

The main home screen of the software displays an image of the mouse. From here, you can dive into various customization options. You can reassign button functions to a wide array of commands, including standard mouse clicks, multimedia controls, custom macros, or even DPI switching. The software allows you to set up and save different profiles, which is handy if you play multiple games or switch between gaming and productivity tasks. You can also import and export these profiles. A nice granular control is the ability to adjust key debounce time, which can fine-tune click responsiveness.

In the DPI settings section, you can configure up to six distinct DPI steps, allowing you to cycle through them using the dedicated DPI button on the mouse. Adjustments can be made in precise intervals of 50 DPI, going all the way up to that massive 42,000 DPI on the S9 Ultra. Each DPI stage can also be assigned a different indicator color. This section is also where you can change the report rate, or polling rate, with options up to 8000Hz for the S9 Ultra and S9 Pro (when used wirelessly).

There’s a fairly comprehensive macro editor included, allowing you to record and assign complex sequences of keystrokes and mouse clicks to a single button.

The configuration tab offers even more advanced settings. You can adjust the Mouse LOD (Lift-off Distance), which determines how high you can lift the mouse before the sensor stops tracking. For the S9 Ultra, this can be set as low as a very precise 0.7mm. For the S9 Pro, the lowest available LOD setting is 1.0mm. Under “Sensor Drawing Performance,” you’ll find options for Ripple Control, Angle Snapping (which helps draw straighter lines, usually disabled for gaming), and Motion Sync (which aims to synchronize sensor reports with PC polling intervals for smoother tracking). There’s also a dedicated “Glass Mode.” The tooltip explains that activating Glass Mode improves cursor sensitivity on certain surfaces, making it ideal if you’re using a glass mousepad.

The software also allows you to select different Sensor Modes: Office, High, or Gaming. The Gaming mode presumably prioritizes performance, while the Office mode might be tuned for power saving to extend battery life. You can also customize the Sleep Time, setting how long the mouse should wait before entering a power-saving sleep mode. Additionally, the software conveniently provides access to adjust standard Windows system settings like mouse movement speed (it’s generally recommended to keep “Enhance pointer precision” unchecked for consistent raw input in games), scroll speed, and double-click speed, all from within the EWEADN utility.

    Real-World Performance & Gaming

When testing the polling rate using a dedicated polling rate tester application, the S9 Ultra performed exceptionally well, consistently hovering around the 8000Hz mark, occasionally even registering slightly above. The S9 Pro also demonstrated a very accurate and stable 8000Hz polling rate when used wirelessly with its 8K receiver. The graph showed a very flat line, indicating consistent reporting without significant dips or spikes, which is exactly what you want for reliable performance.

The in-game experience with the S9 Ultra was genuinely excellent. It absolutely did not hold me back in any competitive scenarios. Aiming felt incredibly precise and responsive, and the clicks were crisp and reliable for shooting. Tracking opponents was exceptionally smooth, no doubt aided by the high 8000Hz polling rate and the quality of the PAW3950 sensor. Both quick flick shots and subtle micro-adjustments felt natural and effortless.

The default PTFE (Teflon) skates provided a smooth glide on my glass mousepad, and this was further enhanced by enabling the “Glass Mode” in the software. I personally didn’t feel the need to apply the included grip tapes, as the mouse’s coating already offered a secure enough grip for my preference, but it’s great that they’re included. And, of course, the Flame Red color just looks phenomenal during gameplay.

    Final Thoughts

Now, let’s consider the pricing, which is a strong point for the EWEADN S9 lineup. The standard EWEADN S9, the base model, can often be found for as low as $54.99. The S9 Pro version typically retails for around $64.99. The top-of-the-line S9 Ultra is priced at approximately $69.99 for the vibrant colorways like the Flame Red or the Gradient Purple.

Considering the high-end specifications, particularly for the S9 Ultra, which offers a shape very reminiscent of a premium mouse like the Razer Viper V3 Pro, along with top-tier components like an 8000Hz polling rate and the excellent PAW3950 sensor, the value proposition is incredibly strong. Even the S9 Pro, at around $50 to $55, delivers a fantastic package with its 8K wireless capability and quality Kailh switches. If you’re working with a tighter budget, the standard S9 still presents a very capable and well-built gaming mouse.

EWEADN S9 Ultra Review: Viper Shape Without the Viper Price?

Suppose your goal is to acquire a high-performance gaming mouse that features a familiar, widely acclaimed, and comfortable ambidextrous shape, but you don’t want to spend the premium prices often associated with mainstream brands. In that case, the EWEADN S9 series, and especially the S9 Ultra, is definitely an option that warrants serious consideration. The slight increase in weight compared to some of the absolute lightest mice on the market might even be a positive for many users who prefer a bit more control and stability, and the raw performance, particularly with the 8KHz polling, is undeniably up there with the best.
