Haylou S30 Pro Review – High-Resolution Sound Meets Affordable Noise Cancellation

The budget-friendly wireless audio market continues to expand rapidly, prompting manufacturers to release yearly updates of their popular models. I have spent significant time evaluating the Haylou S30 Pro, which enters the market as an updated over-ear headset designed to balance high-end features with an accessible price tag. Available on major online platforms such as AliExpress, this model promises active noise cancellation, high-resolution audio, and a unique detachable microphone for a modest investment.

My assessment explores how this model performs in practical scenarios rather than relying on promotional specifications. I will analyze the build quality, audio performance, battery metrics, and real-world noise attenuation to see how it stands up to daily use.

    Design, Materials, and Ergonomic Fit

Available in beige and black, the matte plastic construction feels reasonable given the target price range. The headband features a soft cushion, though the padded area is relatively narrow compared to broader designs. The folding mechanism utilizes plastic hinges, raising some long-term durability concerns, but the internal adjustment band consists of a sturdy metal strip. The ten-step size adjustment clicks firmly into position, remaining stable without sliding out of place unexpectedly.

Soft memory-foam ear cushions provide comfortable contact, molding well around the ears and offering the ability to easily swap them out when worn. Passive noise isolation works quite well, blocking out moderate environmental sound even before turning on active cancellation. My ears remained cool under typical indoor conditions, though high summer heat or intense indoor workouts will likely cause sweating.

Clamping pressure remains moderate, securing the headset during desk work while preventing uncomfortable pressure points on the skull. Physical activities like jogging require regular adjustments, as the headphones tend to slip slightly when subjected to sudden head movements. I do not recommend this specific model for running or high-intensity athletic training due to this shifting behavior.

    Touch Controls and Connectivity

Control elements reside exclusively on the right ear cup, leaving the left cup completely free of buttons and ports. The right side hosts a 3.5mm audio jack, a 2.5mm microphone port, a USB-C charging slot, and three physical buttons. These buttons control volume adjustments, ANC mode toggles, and power management, utilizing tactile clicks that register instantly.

Raising the volume requires a quick tap on the dedicated rocker, while lowering it demands a sustained press on the same button. Learning this configuration takes a short transition period, though the layout remains intuitive once muscle memory sets in. All button actions produce short, helpful system tones to confirm the input has been registered.

A capacitive touch-sensitive surface occupies the outer shell of the right ear cup to manage advanced feature states. Tapping this area allows quick activation of the bass boost mode, low-latency gaming mode, or call answering. Placing a palm over the touch sensor triggers a highly responsive quick-talk function that lowers music volume and activates transparency mode.

Removing your hand immediately restores the original audio volume and previous listening mode without lag. Wireless stability remains high thanks to the integrated Bluetooth 5.4 chip, which maintained a solid connection across multiple rooms. Testing the signal through two solid walls revealed no stuttering or connection drops from the source device. Dual-device multipoint connectivity works reliably, allowing seamless transition between a phone and a laptop under typical multitasking workflows.

Active Noise Cancellation and Dual Microphone

Active noise cancellation on this model claims up to 43 decibels of hybrid environmental sound suppression. Real-world testing shows that the ANC system struggles to fully eliminate low-frequency train noise in subway cars. Monotonous street noise, shopping mall chatter, and air conditioning hums are managed effectively when combined with the strong passive seal.

The transparency mode allows you to hold conversations without removing the headset, though the reproduced external audio has some audible digital processing. Voice transmission relies on built-in ENC microphones or the included 2.5mm external boom microphone. The internal microphones handle calls adequately, but they introduce noticeable compression and vocal distortion in noisy environments.

    Google Photos Image

Attaching the external microphone dramatically improves vocal clarity because the capsule sits closer to the user’s mouth. Gamers and remote workers will find the detachable microphone far superior to standard built-in arrays. It filters out surrounding room noise much more cleanly than the internal pinhole microphones. Having this secondary microphone option makes the Pro version highly versatile for stationary computer work.

Sound Profile, App Customization, and the LDAC

Equipped with 40mm dynamic drivers and Hi-Res Audio certification, the default sound profile leans heavily toward consumer-friendly tuning. Bass frequencies are deep and moderately punchy without muddying the mid-range or masking high-frequency details. Activating the bass boost mode further emphasizes low-end rumble, making the headset excellent for electronic, dance, and modern pop tracks.

Classical recordings lack some of the delicate spatial separation and instrumental timber found on more analytical audiophile gear. Software customization takes place within the Haylou Sound application, offering a straightforward interface for firmware updates and feature toggles. The sound tab includes six pre-configured equalizer profiles to adjust the acoustic output, though the lack of a custom parametric EQ is disappointing.

A recent firmware update introduced LDAC codec support, bringing high-resolution wireless streaming to compatible Android devices. Utilizing the LDAC codec provides enhanced musical detail and superior clarity over standard AAC or SBC streams. This high-bitrate mode disables the dual-device multipoint feature and noticeably increases overall latency.

Wired operation through the 3.5mm cable works even when the internal battery is completely depleted, offering slightly cleaner details. Active features, touch controls, and digital signal processing remain completely inactive when using the analog bypass cable. The performance difference between wired and wireless modes is minimal, ensuring a consistent listening experience either way.

    Battery Lifespan and Charging

Powering the headset is a 600 mAh internal lithium battery that provides impressive overall runtime. A full charge cycle from empty to one hundred percent requires approximately two hours and ten minutes of wired Type-C connection. A quick ten-minute charge delivers up to three additional hours of playback, which is extremely convenient when preparing for a sudden commute.

    Google Photos Image

Real-world battery life decreases when utilizing the high-definition LDAC codec or keeping active noise cancellation engaged continuously. An automatic power-off feature helps conserve battery life when the headset remains idle for extended periods. Adjusting the idle timeout duration is not possible within the companion application, forcing users to rely on the default factory interval.

Final Thoughts — Price & Value

The Haylou S30 Pro positions itself as a highly competitive option within the budget wireless headphone segment. It delivers a rich suite of premium features, including a responsive touch interface, reliable multipoint connectivity, and an external microphone that elevates call quality. The absence of a carrying case and the reliance on plastic hinges are minor tradeoffs when weighed against the low price.

    Google Photos Image

Audiophiles seeking flat, analytical reference sound might find the heavy bass tuning less suited to their acoustic tastes. Fans of modern genres, gaming, and remote communication will appreciate the impressive bass response and the dual-microphone versatility. The addition of the LDAC codec via firmware updates shows strong post-launch software support from the manufacturer.

    Google Photos Image

Purchasing these headphones during promotional events or online sales maximizes their value proposition significantly. They offer a comprehensive features-to-cost ratio that challenges more expensive competitors. I can confidently recommend this headset to anyone looking for reliable daily-use ANC headphones with excellent battery stamina.
